We're looking for a Project Engineer to take ownership of additional works and defined work packages on our Central network. You'll plan, coordinate and deliver small projects and variations - working closely with the Operations Manager, Operations Engineer, crews and subcontractors - to ensure works are completed safely, on time, on budget and to the required quality standards.
You'll scope and price additional works, develop short‑term programmes, manage on‑site delivery and ensure robust QA and documentation to support claims and asset updates. This role suits a civil engineer with experience delivering multiple work packages or minor projects in a maintenance or infrastructure environment, and who enjoys being close to the workface.
In addition to the above you will:
- Lead small work packages end‑to‑end, including scoping, planning, delivery and close‑out of additional works and variations.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, including scopes, safety plans, programme inputs, QA records and supporting information for claims.
- Champion safety and quality on site, ensuring safe work practices, compliance with environmental requirements, and robust inspection processes.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day delivery with in‑house crews, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to standard.
- Monitor progress and performance, providing updates on time, cost, risks and quality, and liaising with programming, renewals and asset teams.
- Support continuous improvement, sharing lessons learned, coaching field teams, and contributing to a positive and collaborative team culture.
We're looking for someone with:
- Tertiary qualification in civil engineering or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience in road maintenance, minor capital works or infrastructure project delivery.
- Ability to plan and deliver multiple small projects or work packages in a live network environment.
- Strong understanding of health, safety and quality principles.
- Competent in reading drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Clear communicator who works effectively with crews, subcontractors, engineers and clients.
- Familiarity with asset/work management systems (e.g., AWM or similar) is an advantage.
