We’re looking for an energetic team player who brings strong aquatic skills and a passion for delivering great customer experience.

This role is rostered Thursday to Sunday, totaling 27.5 hours per week, with shifts scheduled on Thursday (4:00pm–9:15pm), Friday (12:30pm–9:00pm), Saturday (10:00am–6:00pm), and Sunday (10:00am–6:00pm). To support continuity and training investment, applications will be considered by individuals able to commit to a minimum six-month period. Remuneration for this role will be $28.29 - $32.94 depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi This role is responsible for supporting the safe and effective operation of QLDC’s aquatic facilities. You will play a key role in aquatic supervision, emergency response, and health and safety management, while delivering a welcoming, high-quality customer experience and supporting community participation in health and fitness activities. The role will involve:

  • Ensuring the safe supervision of aquatic facilities, including effective emergency response and water rescue when required.
  • Delivering outstanding customer service by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all users.
  • Proactively managing health and safety risks, including hazard identification, water quality testing, and incident reporting.
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, equipment uses, and compliance with operational procedures.
  • Working collaboratively within the Health & Fitness team to support community participation, membership retention, and facility usage.

What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai tō Pukeka We are looking for a motivated and safety-focused individual who brings relevant aquatic experience along with strong interpersonal skills. You will be confident working with the public, able to remain calm under pressure, and committed to delivering positive customer experience while working collaboratively within a team environment. To best succeed in this role, you’ll have:

  • A strong commitment to aquatic safety, including confident supervision, emergency response, and water rescue capability.
  • A customer-first mindset, with the ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience for all facility users.
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety practices, with a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • A reliable, motivated work ethic, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a high-performing Health & Fitness team.
