The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi We're seeking a new team member for an awake night shift part-time position in Nelson. Located in a beautiful villa in The Wood, Nelson with a serene and tranquil area surrounded by trees. It's a place for acutely unwell tangata whai ora to come to rest and refocus on themselves. We operate a 24/7 Crisis Respite service and acute-admitting community house, offering care for individuals experiencing crisis. We support individuals experiencing mental health distress that prevents them from staying in their home environment and you will play a vital role in providing short-term crisis respite support. We utilise trauma informed care and AOD recovery approaches.

The shift is Sunday and Monday Awake Night shifts, 11pm to 7:30am in Nelson. A meal is provided for overnight awake staff.

You'll also:

  • Focusing on the individuals needs and providing culturally safe practice
  • Relevant administrative tasks, comprehensive notes and effective handover, and supporting and collaborating with your colleagues
  • You'll need to be prepared to support our clients to do whatever it takes using a recovery model
  • Whilst the whai ora you support are sleeping you will complete tasks such as cleaning and maintaining things like filing, first aid kits, emergency kits and preparation of paperwork.

About You | Mōu For this role, mental health experience is essential and a minimum qualification of the NZ Level 4 Health and Well Being certificate is required (or an equivalent qualification or be currently working towards it). A calm caring demeanour is essential and skills in de-escalation and mindfulness are valued. You'll align with our commitment to a recovery-focused approach and have the ability to provide medication support with meticulous attention to detail.

You'll have:

  • New Zealand Certificate Level 4 in Health and Wellbeing (or a recognised equivalent, or currently studying towards it).
  • Some mental health experience is needed
  • A full New Zealand drivers licence
  • You must hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
  • Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand. This role is not supported under the AEWV.
