Live and work in Whakatane a close community with a stunning coastline and heart Fixed term part-time position available till August 2026 - 0.9 FTE Ideal for experienced critical care nurses seeking variety and autonomy

About the Role

This is a key role delivering responsive, high-quality care to patients showing signs of acute deterioration. Working autonomously, you will support ward teams, respond to referrals, coach staff in real time, and assist in identifying patients needing higher-level interventions. This service runs 7 days per week, on afternoon and night shifts and incorporates coaching and care capacity building within inpatient care teams.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Patients at Risk service at Whakatane Hospital plays a vital role in improving outcomes for vulnerable patients. The team focuses on rapid intervention, proactive support, and capability building within clinical teams. Whakatane Hospital serves a diverse community across the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Youll join a small, tight-knit team committed to equity, sustainability, and quality patient care. This role offers a unique chance to contribute meaningfully to a region where healthcare makes a deep impact.

About you

We are interested in hearing from Registered Nurses with extensive critical care experience who are looking for a new nursing opportunity.

You bring a calm, confident presence and extensive critical care experience. You know how to navigate complex situations, provide real-time coaching, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Youre reliable, organised, and focused on patient safety.

What you will bring:

Current NZ Nursing Council registration and Annual Practicing Certificate Experience in Intensive Care or High Dependency strongly preferred Advanced assessment and clinical reasoning skills Clear communicator with a positive, team-first attitude Ability to work independently, across varied shifts Commitment to equity and clinical experience
