Fly In, Fly Out Occupational Health Nurse
Occupational Health Nurse (FIFO - Waihi Based) Mining Industry | 2:1 Roster (Two Weeks On, One Week Off) A mining operation based in Waihi is seeking an experienced Occupational Health Nurse to support the health, safety, and wellbeing of its workforce. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in a rural environment, and is passionate about delivering high quality occupational health care in a dynamic setting. This position includes FIFO travel in and around New Zealand to support multiple mine sites, and you'll need to be comfortable being on call when required.
About the Role Working on a 2 weeks on, 1 week off FIFO roster, you'll provide on site medical support, health assessments, and injury management services. You'll also play a key role in promoting employee wellbeing through proactive wellness initiatives and health education.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct annual medical checks and health monitoring
- Complete initial injury assessments and develop aftercare plans
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers and make formal referrals
- Support employees through internal injury management processes
- Create and monitor return to work plans
- Review and develop medical policies
- Stay current with NZ medical legislation and ACC policy changes
- Undertake pre employment medical testing, including drug testing
- Perform reasonable tasks aligned with your skills and experience
Qualifications & Experience Essential
- Current Nursing Certificate (Nursing Council of NZ)
- Full NZ Driver Licence
- Hands on experience working in rural or remote environments
- Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication
- Ability to work independently, use initiative, and adapt to varied situations
- Comfortable working with a wide range of people
Desirable
- 2+ years' experience as a Health Screening Consultant or Occupational Health Nurse
Additional Pre Employment Checks
- Criminal and traffic conviction check (Ministry of Justice)
