He angitūtanga / The opportunity:

We are currently looking for a highly skilled Sous Chef to work at the New Zealand Military base in Trentham, located 30km from Wellington. It is a Permanent position, rostered across 7 days per week. This role offers min 30 hours per week. This role would suit an ambitious Sous Chef looking to step-up to a role that offers diversity, where no day is the same and where they can really make their mark. You will need to be a leader who is able to engage, coordinate, support and inspire our kitchen team, working alongside our Exec Chef to help coordinate and manage the daily running of the kitchen.

Ko o kawenga/Your responsibilities:

• Supporting the Head Chef with a strong emphasis on quality and presentation, delivering consistent and high quality menu service.
• Adhering to safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of you and your team.
• Organising and executing daily service/prep in an efficient and timely manner.
• Assist in up-skilling existing staff members including training and guidance.
• Ensure appropriate hygiene practices are followed by all kitchen staff including personal presentation and food safety plan procedure.
• Working across various areas within the base from the main kitchen and mess hall to corporate catering and formal dinners.

• Extensive experience in large high volume kitchen environment and a thorough working knowledge of the resources sector.
• Flexibility to work a variety of rosters and shifts.
• Have strong emphasis on quality, presentation, delivering consistent high quality menu service while maintaining food cost.
• Have a strong work ethic, a great attitude and experience at supervisory level with the ability to lead and motivate your team.
• Have a safety focus and an awareness of Health and Safety practices and protocols.
• Provide on-site training with the objective of ensuring compliance and continuous improvement to the business.
