We’re looking for an experienced HR Manager to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, starting early 2026. This is your chance to take the lead on all things HR in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
Who are we? Paul Smith Earthmoving is a leading civil construction and earthworks contractor operating across the South Island, with a head office and operations yard in Timaru. Established in 2002, we have built a reputation for delivering high-quality projects with integrity and precision. Our projects range from residential site developments to large-scale commercial and infrastructure works, including major subdivisions and NZTA-approved road construction.
What You’ll Be Doing: You’ll play a key role in shaping our people strategy - driving recruitment, onboarding, training, employee engagement and promote excellence in the workplace. If you thrive on variety, enjoy building strong relationships, and want to make a real difference, this role is for you. Responsibilities include:
- Manage end-to-end recruitment and onboarding for operational and office roles.
- Provide expert advice to managers on HR issues, ensuring compliance with NZ employment law and company policies.
- Champion the company’s Code of Conduct and a positive culture.
- Oversee performance reviews, training initiatives, and employee development.
- Collaborate with Health & Safety to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee queries and concerns.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualification in Human Resources or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of NZ employment law and HR best practices.
- Proven HR experience, ideally in construction, civil works, or similar industries.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
