About the Role
We're looking for skilled Fitters to join our Facilities team in the Lakes District within our Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG). In this hands-on role, you'll carry out mechanical repairs, maintenance, and upgrades on boilers, HVAC systems, and other essential plant and equipment that keep our hospital running smoothly. You'll be part of a team that ensures our sites are safe, reliable, and ready to deliver quality healthcare to the community.
We will also help to build your skills in medical gas systems through nationally approved training courses and locally in geothermal heating systems.
This is a practical role where no two days are the same - from fixing urgent issues to planning preventative maintenance. You'll also take part in the after-hours on-call roster to keep things moving when it matters most.
The salary range for this position is $82,663to $89,241 of the Etu Collective Agreement.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
About you
You're a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in doing the job right the first time. You enjoy working with tools and machinery, and you're not afraid to get stuck in when things need fixing. Safety is second nature to you, and you know how important it is to keep systems running smoothly in a busy hospital environment.
You're organised, reliable, and can work independently or as part of a team. You're the type of person who notices when something's not quite right and takes action before it becomes a bigger issue. If you like variety, enjoy practical work, and want a role where your skills make a real difference to people's lives, this is for you.
You'll bring:
- NZ Trade Certificate in Fitting, Turning and/or Welding (or similar).
- A clean NZ driver's licence.
- Experience with boilers, chillers, and HVAC systems in commercial or industrial settings.
- Ability to read technical drawings and follow maintenance standards.
- Good communication skills and a commitment to safe work practices
- Advanced Trade Certificate or specialist training (e.g., confined space, working at heights). - Desirable
- Familiarity with medical gas systems and building management systems. - Desirable
