Electrician - Antarctica Research Station (McMurdo)

Are you an experienced electrician ready to take your skills to the most remote and awe‑inspiring place on Earth? We're seeking a skilled Electrician to join our team McMurdo station, supporting critical scientific missions in one of the harshest environments on the planet.

This is no ordinary job - you'll play a vital role ensuring reliable power, safety, and infrastructure for a community of scientists and support staff living at the edge of the world.

What You'll Do

• Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot electrical systems including generators, power distribution networks, and emergency backup systems.
• Perform routine inspections to ensure the reliability and safety of station infrastructure.
• Support installation of new electrical equipment as scientific needs evolve.
• Collaborate with mechanical, operations, and engineering teams to keep the station running smoothly.
• Respond to urgent issues in extreme weather conditions - from high winds to sub-zero temperatures.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified Electrician (NZ/EU/UK/AU or equivalent certification).
• Strong background in industrial, commercial, or remote-site electrical work.
• Ability to work independently and troubleshoot under pressure.
• High level of physical fitness and willingness to work in cold, isolated conditions.
• Team-oriented mindset, resilience, and a strong sense of adventure.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with diesel generators or renewable energy systems (wind/solar).
• Background in remote, mining, maritime, or military deployments.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices in extreme environments.
