Job Title: Generator Technician

Location: Auckland — On-site and field work

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 per year

Position Type: Full-time

Role Summary: We’re seeking an experienced Generator Technician to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel generator sets, transfer switches, and associated electrical/mechanical systems including Battery Energy Storage Systems. The ideal candidate is hands-on, safety-conscious, and able to work independently in the field with a keen focus on quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine preventive maintenance and inspections on generators, ATS, switchgear, and UPS equipment Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-system faults Conduct load bank testing and fuel system checks Install and commission new generator systems and accessories Read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics and technical manuals Maintain accurate service reports, test records, and parts inventories Respond to emergency service calls and perform after-hours troubleshooting as required Follow company safety policies and regulatory requirements

Qualifications:

5+ years’ experience working on industrial/commercial generator systems or equivalent HVAC/mechanical/electrical experience Strong electrical knowledge (AC/DC), engine systems, fuel systems, and controls Ability to use diagnostic tools, multimeters, and test equipment Valid driver’s license; clean driving record required Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and good communication with customers and team members Willingness to travel to client sites and work occasional nights/weekends Fluent English with good communication skills NZ residency required
