Lead and coordinate vegetation maintenance activities across the network as a Vegetation Supervisor, ensuring safe, high-quality delivery and strong team performance.
Te kōwhiringa | The opportunity
We have an opportunity for an experienced Vegetation Supervisor to join Downer's team based in Palmerston North.
In this role, you'll lead and coordinate arborists delivering vegetation maintenance and fault work across the network, including participation in after-hours and emergency response as required. You'll plan and organise work programmes in conjunction with the Service Delivery Manager, Landowner Liaison Officer and Operational Coordinators, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
You'll be responsible for job planning and resourcing, supervising field crews and subcontractors, monitoring performance, and ensuring all work meets contractual, quality and Zero Harm requirements. This role also plays a key part in developing people capability through coaching, mentoring and supporting competency assessments for arborists.

You're an experienced Arborist and proven people leader who takes pride in delivering quality outcomes, maintaining strong safety standards and building capable, engaged teams. You're organised, confident dealing with stakeholders, and comfortable balancing operational delivery with people leadership.
You will bring:
- Level 4 qualification in Arboriculture (or assessed equivalent)
- At least 5 years' experience as an Arborist, including climbing and EWP operation
- Full NZ driver's licence (Class 2 preferred)
- Proven experience leading teams in an operational environment
- Strong knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements, including the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations
- The ability to supervise staff and subcontractors to achieve safe, timely and high-quality outcomes
- Good communication skills, with the ability to complete reports and documentation
- Physical fitness and the ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions
