Position: Mould Tooling Technician & Manufacturing Hand Location: Manawatu-Whanganui Type: Full-time/Permanent Pay Range: $30 - $35 per hour (depending on experience) Days: Monday to Friday (with occasional call-outs on weekends) Hours: Guaranteed at least 30 hours per week
The Company: Our client is a well-established New Zealand manufacturer specialising in high-quality moulded plastic products. They are seeking a skilled Mould Tooling Technician & Manufacturing Hand to support the manufacture, maintenance, setup, and repair of mould tooling used in production. This is a hands-on role requiring strong fabrication skills, attention to detail, and a practical engineering mindset, contributing to safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reading and interpreting CAD drawings and accurately marking out steel components
- Manufacturing, repairing, maintaining, and upkeeping mould tooling used in production
- Using moulds in production, completing trials, and producing jigs or process tooling as required
- Fabricating sheet metal components, including cutting, folding, welding, and panel beating
- Building accurate steel frames using bar and angle, including bracing
- Assembling and welding mould components, minimising weld pull and correcting imperfections
- Completing moulds using specialist finishing putties and paints
- Performing general metalwork and basic machining, including lathe work
- Operating safely at all times and complying with health and safety requirements
- Contributing positively to the team and continuous improvement initiatives
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- At least two years of relevant work experience in mould tooling fabrication, or a related engineering field
- Strong ability to read and interpret CAD drawings
- Competency in welding, fabrication, and panel beating
- Experience working with sheet metal and structural steel
- Basic machining experience, including lathe operation
- Good physical capability to handle and use mould tooling in production
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Must have a clean police report with no charges pending
