Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity We're seeking experienced Telecommunications Technicians/Riggers to join our Energy & Utilities team based from Hornby, Christchurch.
Work across mobile and ISP networks, delivering installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault response services across multiple client environments.
This role includes both tower-based rigging and ground-level technical work, ensuring all assets are installed, tested and commissioned safely, efficiently, and to specification. As workloads increase, you'll also support other regions, so flexibility to travel is required.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - from builds and upgrades to fault response, testing, and high-quality as-built documentation, all while upholding Downer's Zero Harm culture.

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills As a safety-focused telecommunications professional, you take pride in quality workmanship and being a reliable team player. You're confident working across mobile and ISP environments and understand what it takes to deliver work safely, efficiently, and right first time.
You will bring:
- Hands-on experience working with radio and cellular network equipment, including build and fault response
- Proven capability installing and maintaining cell tower infrastructure, including antennas, MHAs and combiners
- Competency in sweep and PIM testing, with the ability to interpret results accurately
- Rigging and tower climbing experience (essential), with confidence working at heights
- Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings and job specifications, supported by solid computer skills for job updates and documentation
- Flexibility to participate in call-out rosters and travel or work away from home when required
You'll take ownership of your sites, maintain high safety and quality standards, and represent Downer professionally with clients and stakeholders alongside a team of pro's!
