We are seeking a highly skilled and reliable Class 5 Driver to join the team / our client in the Manukau region .
This role is vital in ensuring the safe and efficient transport of high-value structural steel components from their 10,000m² + Manukau facility to various construction sites across New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Operation: Drive and maneuver Class 5 heavy combination vehicles (over dimensional ) in urban and highway conditions.
- Load Security: Take primary responsibility for securing structural steel loads using chains and restraints in strict accordance with NZTA regulations.
- Site Coordination: Work closely with yard personnel and crane teams to coordinate the loading and unloading of oversized or heavy steel elements.
- Compliance & Maintenance: Conduct daily pre-start vehicle inspections, maintain accurate logbooks for fatigue management, and report any maintenance needs promptly.
- Safety Leadership: Adhere to rigorous site-specific health and safety protocols and participate in toolbox meetings.
Requirements:
- Licensing: Must hold a current, clean NZ Class 5 Licence.
- Experience: Minimum of 2–5 years of heavy vehicle experience, ideally within the engineering, construction, or steel industries.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Road Ranger gearboxes ; over dimensional loads and experience with jack-knifing or reversing in tight construction site environments.
- Reliability: A proactive attitude with a commitment to punctuality and representing them professionally on-site.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to handle the physical demands of securing heavy loads.
