Our role at Antarctica New Zealand is to support world-leading science and environmental protection in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Scott Base is the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica and each year, we employ seasonal staff to manage base activity and support science in the field.
Mō te mahi | About the role - What you'll be doing
As filed support, you will be responsible for the preparation and deployment of field resources to science teams via helicopter and fixed wing aircraft.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Issue, maintain and repair field equipment
- Provide support to event teams by helping prepare field equipment and build and coordinate sling/flight loads
- Manage the safe loading of personnel and equipment into helicopters and fixed wing aircraft, provide safety briefings and complete associated documentation
- Perform as a member or lead the Scott Base Search and Rescue Team
We have two positions available – 6 months (August 2026 to February 2027) to and 13 months (August 2026 to October 2027).

We operate in one of the most remote locations in the globe, so our team needs to work well together, focus on safety and integrate successfully into the small community lifestyle.You are a highly motivated individual who enjoys teamwork, a dynamic work environment and is an excellent communicator. You enjoy fast-paced work where plans change as frequently as the weather. Experience working around helicopters is a must, as is a 'can-do' attitude and a desire to work towards a common goal in a close-knit team. Skills and Experience Include:
- NZOIA Alpine 1 qualification and/or IRATA or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 3 years' experience working with helicopter operations and fixed wing aircraft in remote locations
- A can-do attitude and customer service focus to all visiting personnel
- Current operational experience with Search and Rescue
- Current NZ driver's licence, proficient in the use of manual vehicles.
