LOGISTICS & INFRASTRUCTURE ASSISTANT MANAGER Location: Nelson Tasman Region Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
K&F McLean is seeking an experienced, hands-on Logistics & Infrastructure Assistant Manager to lead our transport, fleet, irrigation, and operational logistics functions across the business.
This is a key operational leadership role responsible for ensuring our operations are supported by safe, efficient, and reliable logistics systems. Working closely alongside orchard leadership and operational teams, you’ll help drive operational readiness, manage critical infrastructure activities, and lead transport operations in a fast-paced horticultural environment.
This role suits someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership, leads from the front, and thrives in practical operational environments where planning, adaptability, and sound decision-making matter. The successful candidate will also understand the seasonal nature of the horticulture industry and be comfortable responding to changing operational demands and priorities throughout the year.
What you will be doing
- Lead and manage transport and logistics operations across multiple sites
- Coordinate harvest and orchard logistics to support efficient daily operations
- Manage fleet availability, servicing, compliance, and preventative maintenance schedules
- Oversee transport compliance including COF, WOF, servicing, certifications, and safety requirements
- Coordinate contractors, repairs, and operational resources as required
- Support irrigation design, infrastructure installation, and water management planning
- Lead seasonal infrastructure works including trenching, post installation, and trellis wire systems
- Promote and lead safe systems of work across transport, loading, traffic management, and site movements
- Identify operational improvements and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the business
What we are looking for
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in transport, logistics, infrastructure, or operational management
- Proven leadership experience managing teams in hands-on operational environments
- Strong practical knowledge of fleet operations, machinery, transport compliance, and maintenance systems
- Good administrative and computer skills, including the ability to confidently operate and update excel spreadsheets and manage fleet systems
- Experience operating heavy vehicles and agricultural or construction equipment
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities during peak operational periods
- Practical problem-solving ability and a calm, solutions-focused approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people
- Commitment to health, safety, and high operational standards
Required Licences & Certifications & competencies
- Class 5 Driver Licence
- Wheels Tracks and Rollers licence endorsement
- Digger/excavator operation tickets or proven high-level experience operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently
- Tractor operation experience
- Spraying certification or practical spraying experience preferred or willingness to obtain certification
- Mechanical and Engineering knowledge and certifications are desirable
