BMW S38 B36 engine/ full conversion to E24/E28

BMW S38B36 3.5 litre Motorsport engine from a 1990 BMW E34 M5. 315 BHP from the factory. An updated M88 from the BMW M1 super car.

Engine currently in my 1986 BMW E28 M535i but could be transferred into either another E28 or E24 635csi without much work, I’ve done it all.

The engine came from a NZ new E34 M5 with circa 250k. I stripped it down with all gaskets other than the head gasket and front main seal done. Engine covers painted and then sent to Gavin Bellars of High Velocity to get dyno and tune up (ECU not tuned). Dyno’d at 188.2kw at the rear wheels with a 3.73 LSD. Compression strong and no leaks what so ever. Very strong power in a 1500kg car.

Comes with;

• S38 B36 motor with all wiring, DME, starter, alternator (everything) (alternator rebuilt last week at a cost of $550)
• Koala Motorsport mounts for E28/E24 chassis out of US ($350)
• Fritz Headers out of the UK that cost me $2,300
• Getrag 260 5 speed from an E34 535 I (shorter gearing than the M5 280box), rebuilt slave cylinder. Smooth.
• Rebuilt clutch cover ramped up to 2500 with a carbon Kevlar clutch plate circa 10ks ago
• Custom driveshaft to fit an E28 or E24 (also have a new hanger bearing in glove box for it)
• Custom linkages and short shifter
• custom gearbox mount
• custom ps lines

May discuss the exhaust system as a further cost. It is made up from an E36 M3 and a standard E28 back box that was cut open and modified with 2.5 inch baffled centre.

All as been done now, it really is an amazing package for an E3, E28 or E24 without much work. I built it as a E28 M5 clone, however came across an E28 M5 while I was building it so has become a surplus car I want to repower again with a modern N54/N55 or S65.
