Location: Christchurch, New Zealand Pay Rate: $25 to $28 per hour depending on experience Job Type: Full Time Permanent Position Minimum Guaranteed Hours: 30 hours per week

We are looking for a passionate and reliable Cook to join our growing Malaysian cuisine takeaway business in Christchurch.

This role is suitable for someone who enjoys fast paced kitchen work, teamwork, and bringing Malaysian food culture to the wider community. We are looking for a team player with a positive attitude, good work ethic, and the ability to multitask during busy service periods.

This position is primarily kitchen focused with responsibilities centred on food preparation and cooking. As part of a small business environment, the successful candidate may also support takeaway operations and customer service when required to assist overall daily operations.

Experience operating a commercial wok station is preferred. Applicants with strong cooking fundamentals and an interest in learning wok cooking are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook Malaysian style dishes according to recipes and kitchen standards
• Operate and support cooking stations including wok cooking during service periods where required
• Assist with menu improvement and contribute ideas to introduce Malaysian cuisine to a wider customer base
• Carry out food preparation including meat, vegetables, sauces, soup and stock rotation
• Maintain food quality, consistency, portion control and presentation standards
• Coordinate kitchen workflow and support smooth service during busy periods
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and comply with food safety procedures
• Support takeaway packing, order checking and delivery coordination
• Provide customer support when operationally required
• Assist with additional operational duties to support daily business operations

Requirements

• Previous commercial cooking experience preferred
• Wok station experience preferred or genuine interest in developing wok cooking skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment
• Positive attitude and strong teamwork skills
• Good multitasking and time management ability
• Responsible, punctual and reliable
• Willingness to learn and contribute ideas
• Weekend and flexible availability required
• Malaysian or Asian cuisine experience is an advantage but not essential
