About the Role Northpine is seeking a dedicated and practical Health & Safety Officer to join our team in Waipu. This is a hands-on, site-based role suited to someone who is process-focused, confident working alongside production teams, and committed to maintaining practical and compliant safety systems.

The successful candidate will take ownership of our day-to-day health and safety systems — ensuring they remain relevant, fit for purpose, and embedded in how we operate. This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve the site Health & Safety Management System (HSMS).
  • Review and update SOPs, risk assessments, hazard registers and critical risk controls.
  • Ensure systems align with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and WorkSafe guidance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and field observations.
  • Support safe operation of forklifts, mobile plant and machinery.
  • Coordinate incident, near-miss and hazard reporting processes.
  • Assist with investigations and track corrective actions through to completion.
  • Maintain training and competency registers.
  • Coordinate site inductions for employees, contractors and visitors.
  • Support toolbox talks and ongoing safety communication.
  • Maintain emergency response plans and support drills and reviews.

What We’re Looking For

  • Process-driven but practical approach to safety.
  • Confident communicator across all levels of the workforce.
  • Visible and proactive site presence.
  • Organised, detail-oriented and accountable.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • NZ Certificate in Workplace Health & Safety (Level 4) or higher, OR relevant operational/administrative experience with willingness to develop in health and safety.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in health and safety, compliance, or relevant operational role (preferred).
  • Experience in manufacturing, sawmilling, heavy industry or similar (advantageous).
  • Working knowledge of HSWA 2015 (preferred but can be developed).
  • First Aid Certificate (current or willingness to obtain).

Development Opportunity Northpine is willing to support further professional development and certification for the right candidate. This role may suit someone ready to step up and take ownership within a structured industrial environment.

Eligibility Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid NZ working visa. Pre-employment medical and criminal record checks may apply.
