Description

VERY LARGE & HEAVY solid-cast Brass Victorian-era Safe Maker's "LIST 5" logo plaque

The 212 patent from Milner is not just a trademark, it represents a fire-resistant mixture of sand, sawdust & alum crystals that were injected into the sides of the box.

During a fire, these contents owing to the chemical reaction of the ingredients were guaranteed not to heat up beyond 212 degrees Fahrenheit

GENUINE ANTIQUE

ONLY ONE (1) plaque for sale here

Milner's safe plaques are some of the more pictorial ever made & are LOVED by collectors

This will make a phenomenal centerpiece for any key or lock safe plaque collection or Lock Shop display item

GST RECEIPT available on request when paying

Milner's was the UK's LARGEST manufacturer for many decades & there are literally 100's of variations for the collector to try and acquire

The "212" refers to the BOILING POINT of Water in pre-metric measure

William Milner was something of a showman and would travel around Victorian UK building huge bonfires at public shows and placing valuables inside one of his FIREPROOF safes, would proceed to CREMATE the safe in front of amazed and impressed crowds opening after an hour or two to reveal ALL CONTENTS had SURVIVED

People were suitably impressed and Milner's sales SOARED

William Milner became a very wealthy man & moved to The Isle of Man (for tax haven reasons)

He is well remembered there as a very generous philanthropist. "Milner's Tower" built to honour his memory

Milner's Tower on Bradda Head was built in 1871 by public subscription as a memorial to the benefactor of Port Erin, William Milner, who did much to help the village fishermen & the poor

Milner was a famous safemaker from Liverpool & the unusual shape of the memorial Tower represents a key & a lock

The building is one of the most widely recognisable landmaks on the Isle of Man, & is visible for miles across Port Erin bay

On a clear day views from there stretch to the Mourne Mountains of Ireland
