Awarded 5 stars by Raymond Chan “ Bright, deep, dark ruby-red with youthful purple hues. This has a well-proportioned, perfumed bouquet of dark berry fruit with plum notes and dark red florals, interwoven with black pepper and oak spices, the aromatics hinting at ethereal qualities. Medium-full bodied, concentrated and refined flavours of spicy black fruits and liquorice are enlivened by fresh acidity and supported by very fine-grained tannins. This has good structure and mouthfeel, the succulence of the fruit well balanced by the extract, and the flavours forming a good core that carries through to a long and rich finish of black pepper and florals. This is an elegant, vibrant Syrah with aromatic and spicy fruit to match with roasted game dishes over the next 6-8+ years. 100% Syrah from the ‘Mere Road' vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, hand-picked, destemmed retaining whole berries, and given a cold soak, fermented with wild yeasts to 14.0% alc. in French ‘Integrale' barrels. The wine spent 18 days on skins and aged 15 months in 63% new French oak hogshead barrels”
