Description
Reluctant sale of this beautifully framed work printed in 1844 - over 180 years ago - a genuine early example of then "new" colour printing technology. Depicts "Rev J Waterhouse superintending landing of missionaries at Taranaki - though the artist/engraver had never been to NZ or met Maori hence the romantic costuming. Printed in Britain 1844, size 300mm x 413mm. Last discussion with art gallery several years ago said they would list at $4400. Have written earlier valuation $3500 (2007). Don't confuse with cheaper reproductions printed in recent years. Have owned for over 30 years and am decluttering. Make an offer - but see it first.
