Auction is for a "Letholite" Travel Case or Suit Case which from research I believe to be from around 1930-40.

The case is still completely functional and the locks are not rusty and still work fine although there is no key to lock them.

It has marks consistent with lots of use over the years but is still in solid and sound condition. (Please see photos. Incidentally it has fine tan pin stripes which tend to look a bit distorted in some of the photos but they are all straight lines.)

The inside has a total of 5 silk pouches. (One with an authentic fountain pen ink stain.)

The Dimensions are: Length = 46 cm Width = 41 cm Height = 24 cm

Online (unconfirmed) information that I can find about the "Letholite" manufacturing company is as follows:

'Letholite' travel case is lined in figured silk, with five internal rouched pockets. It has a band of curved zinc to keep the bottom level in shape.

The Letholite Luggage Factory was situated on Ponsonby Road, Auckland, and opened in 1919 for the firm of Palmer, Collins & Whittaker. The business went on to engage 50 workers, making it an important employer and a major supplier of good quality luggage to the New Zealand public. 'Letholite' travel cases are supposedly made from the 'The toughest material known in the travel goods trade'.
