Pair of mid century bentwood and cane Stendig chairs, hand made in Czechoslovakia. We believe these were made by Joseph Hoffmann for Stendig in the 1960s. They are a timeless, well regarded and well designed set of chairs. We have owned these for about 10 years. Really nice comfy chairs. Selling mainly as the armrests are a bit too tall to fit under our new kitchen table and they are too nice to be sitting around unused.

"Mid century chair by Joseph Hoffman for Stendig made in Chechoslovakia in the 1960s. This Bentwood Model 811 dining chair was originally designed in conjunction with Josef Frank in the 1920s. A timeless and iconic design crafted from solid Beech wood with a cane seat."

The cane seats on our chairs were recently re-done by Yvonne Sanders Antiques in Epsom at a cost of $190.00 and the chairs have been used only a handful of times since. They were not re-woven by hand (which is astronomically expensive) but a fresh panel of cane was installed over the seat and mounted into a groove. It is not quite as decadent as the original hand-woven cane, but the chairs are functional again. The backs are still the original hand-woven cane.

Overall height about 810 mm, overall width about 510 mm, overall depth about 500 mm. Max height at armrest about 710 mm if you are interested in pushing them under a table.

Pickup in Auckland CBD near Albert park, or I can deliver these within Auckland (within about a 30 minute drive) at no charge. Shipping will probably be a headache, but if you want to make the arrangements yourself and have me drop them off someplace in Auckland as-is, I am happy to do that.
