Description
Design/Maker: A. H. McIntosh
Origin: Kirkcaldy, Scotland
Circa: 1959-64
Dimensions: Length Extended 1680, compact 1220, Depth 970, Height 740, Between legs 1090
A stunning early-Sixties butterfly extension table produced by highly esteemed Scottish furniture makers A. H. Mcintosh with original makers label underside.
An incredibly striking top with an obvious Danish inspired design, coupled with excellent British craftsmanship. This table comes from a large range of McIntosh furniture from this range and is in a mid size six seater size.
Sitting on a lovely simplistic solid Lovoa Trichilioides or African Walnut frame with slightly tapering elliptical legs which has a very prominent darker streak through the grain in places and is extremely beautiful.
The top is finished with Burmese Teak. This combination is found on most McIntosh furniture from the era, as they were one of only a few companies at the time to use these particular timbers which are very distinctive in appearance.
Fully restored top to bottom. The legs and top have been gently stripped and cleaned, very fine sanding overall to reveal the beautiful grain, then sealed and finished in six or more coats of Danish oil and wax which penetrates the timber, durable and easy to maintain.
A lovely table, which displays beautifully, it really does have the wow factor! Loads of character and the timbers used have a lovely warm tone with some very attractive prominent grain throughout. Perfect for either a modern or mid-century inspired interiors.
