Description
Aurora Watch Co (1884-1891). Watches by this American Company are highly sought after by collectors. They produced mainly large 18 size movements. It has a heavily gold filled open face case which has a minute hallmark inside the back cover but this is not solid gold as some case makers in America at this time were using a lot of gold in their cases and marking them with solid gold marks, as there was no real standard at that time.
Diameter: 55mm Total Weight: 138g
The case has a milled band, engine turned decoration and a vacant cartouche to the rear. The dial is a white enamel dial with roman numerals bordered by a numbered minute track, a seconds dial at 6 o'clock, fine blue spade hands, and is signed "Aurora Watch Co".
It has a clean glass crystal to protect the dial. The movement is an American keyless wind/lever, 11 jewel, gilt full plate going barrel movement with a lever escapement, 5th pinion, compensation balance with over coil hairspring, and scroll decoration on the balance cock. The movement is also signed "Aurora Watch Co, Aurora Ill" and is numbered "30714" which dates it to around 1885. Other markings on the movement are "11 Jewels", "Extra", and "Patent Pinion".
In Good Running Order. Keeps approx. 2 - 3 minutes over 24 hours and is in excellent antique condition apart from some very minor faint hairlines on the dial.
