Mid-Century Smiths Enfield Bauhaus Style Chiming Mantel Clock – c 1950’s

Mid-Century Smiths Enfield Bauhaus Mantel Clock and original winding key.

Made in England c 1950, this is a very stylish example of the period by a well renowned manufacturer.
Beautiful wooden case, features a silver chapter ring with black Arabic numerals and pierced black hands, set behind the original bevelled glass door. The face of the clock bears the words Smiths Enfield and Made in England., the movement bears the words Smiths Enfield, Made in Gt Britain. By the Enfield Clock Co. Ltd and the letters CG

The clock keeps good time and chimes every quarter hour, with a chime and strike on the half hour and a full Westminster chime each full hour plus striking the number of the hour. The chimes can be turned on or off, via the chime/ silent lever at the 3 o’clock position. N:B: Although this clock keeps good time, when the chimes are switched off and then on again they are prone to going out of sync - this should be self-correcting, but isn’t happening, This can be rectified by going through a manual process to correct the chime, however, this has never bothered me as I have kept the chime switched off. But this could be a little annoying if you want to turn the chimes off at night. The mainspring is tight when winding. I believe that this clock would benefit from a service.
