Description

This magnificent 8 day time piece has has just had a total restoration completed. It is sold with a 12 month warranty.

The movement was completely dismantled and rebuilt with no expense spared. It now runs “as new”, having a gorgeous slow tick and keeping excellent time. The movement was stripped, cleaned, re-bushed, reassembled, oiled, and adjusted. It is now set to give another 200 years of service if maintained correctly.

This is a very Scottish Long Case clock with a Beech rather than mahogany or Oak Case giving it a more modern contempory Hamptons look. The case is beautiful and has no borer or rot. It has the most wonderful colour and grain in the timber. The gold hands are engraved and the painted dial with Roman numbers features a series of beautiful pictures in each of the four corners.

The case has a wonderful solid presence to it. It features an opening door over the dial, with the glass held in place with plaster. Below the removable hood is another lockable door complete with original key through which the pendulum and weight are accessed. The clock strikes a bell with a crisp ring each hour, striking the number that matches the hour.

It is hard to believe but this clock dates from a time before electricity, phones, radio, plastic and even cars.

This is your chance however to own a fully restored example of a beautiful long case clock listed with just a dollar reserve! Best of all I will deliver and set this clock up for the purchaser in the greater Auckland area for the cost of my time and travel. Don’t miss your chance to own a clock of this quality and age – listed with just a $1 reserve!

You will have a lifetime of enjoyment from this time piece and then be able to pass on to the next generation as an appreciating asset!

  • Hi members - just to note the clock measure 2.2 meter tall, 48 cm wide and 26 cm deep. Kind regards Seller comment Sunday, 5 October 2025
  • Possible to deliver Tawa Wellington? Mangaleshwaran (6) • 8:52 pm, Sun, 5 Oct Hi there, sorry no I cannot deliver the clock to Wellington as I live in Auckland but I am happy to work with a furniture removal company to have it delivered to you at your expense. Kind regards blacktie (2122) • Sunday, 5 October 2025
  • Hi can you tell me where/when the clock was made and who made the movement please? bigred56 (25) • 4:43 pm, Mon, 6 Oct Hi there, thank you for your questions. When the movement was removed to be renovated and serviced no makers name or Mark was on the movement. This is not unusual for clocks of this age. Generally the maker’s name was on the dial. Unfortunately these details have overtimefaded from the dial and I no longer legible. As the clock is made from Beach I believe it has Scottish origins. Kind regards blacktie (2122) • Monday, 6 October 2025
  • Any idea of the approximate age el_paso (153) • 11:24 am, Tue, 7 Oct Hi there - based on the style of case and design on the movement along with the general patina I would estimate at least 200 years old. Kind regards blacktie (2122) • Tuesday, 7 October 2025
  • Are you able to tell me who did the restoration please? I have a clock in desperate need of tlc and am struggling to find someone with these skills. Thank you. llamma01 (68) • 9:52 pm, Tue, 7 Oct Hi there - I restored the case and a clock maker rebushed the movement. Unfortunately he has now retired and is no longer doing this work. You will need to locate a trained clock maker but be aware it is very expensive to have a movement rebuilt due to the time and skills involved. Good luck. Kind regards blacktie (2122) • Tuesday, 7 October 2025
  • Thanks for that prompt reply. That is exactly what I am finding out....hence the question... yours is a beautiful clock, good luck with its sale. Regards. llamma01 (68) • 10:17 pm, Tue, 7 Oct Sadly there are so few people that can properly rebuild movements, they are very expensive. Rebushing a movement can cost anything from $800 to $1,200 depending on the complexity of the movement. People buy clocks cheaply and then find out when they don’t run or require work that the cost of the repair is more than the valve of the clock.
