Description
Antique Chinese Porcelain Lidded Tea Caddy? Possibly Late Qing or Early 20th Century.
Decorated with various insects, including mantises, cicadas, & ladybugs along with Chinese calligraphy.
The mantis and cicada allude to the Chinese idiom "The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind", which cautions against focusing too narrowly on immediate gains & overlooking greater dangers.
Highly decorative. All relevant markings to the base. No chips, cracks, crazing, or any other discernible damage we can see.
We have two of these this is the second one.
Circa.19cm wide, 13.5cm deep, & 14cm tall.
