Johann Ludwig Aberli (Swiss, 1723 - 1786) Really really old, one of 3 that I have by Swiss Artist J L Alberli - He was a smart guy and even invented his own printing press which created the fine black outline which was then coloured by hand in water colours He published a series of Swiss people in various outfits, I don't know how many but I've seen (online only) about 8 different figures, most of which reside in museums around the world or National Galleries. He was kind of more well known for his landscapes in France and Switzerland

Circa 1778, hand coloured etching printed on laid paper (you can see the grid lines) which was a method of paper making that wasn't used after the 1800s, the gilded frame also fits in around this era, perhaps not the hanging cord though - that has been replaced maybe late last century.

Excellent condition in consideration of its 250 years +
