Vintage sterling silver and ammonite brooch.
Stamped on back Made In NZ RW (makers initials, I have seen other New Zealand vintage jewellery with the same intitals) STG
Ammonite were shelled cephalopods that died out around 66 million years ago. They were ocean dwelling mollusks, specifically cephalopods. This ammonite is typical of the coiled shape, that comes in many different forms and colours. Encased in a thick sterling silver surround, brooch clasp at back, the back opens up so the ammonite is seen from the back also.
Weighs 13.3 grams Measures 32 mm across 27 mm down 4-6 mm thickness
In good condition, what appears to be a small scuff or dint on front of ammonite, could possibly be the ammonites natural formation. Stamps clear on back, clasp works really well and is intact. Some marks around the pin side back right-hand side, apart from this good.
