Description
Welcome to Chic Antique. We believe that all beautiful handmade and heirloom pieces need to be preserved and loved. They are lovingly restored and all come in a luxury velvet box.
It is hard to date this silver ring but I would say it was made circa 1700. It is a charming take on a fede ring with clasped hands. This style of ring goes back to Roman times if not before. It is known as a “fede” ring which is a design of ring in which two hands meet and are clasped in friendship, love or betrothal. It became prominent in the medieval period from the 12th century onwards and in more modern times. The name fede is from the Italian phrase “mani in fede” or “hands clasped in faith”.
Stamped 925- this was introduced by Henry the 5th in the 13th century to show that it was real silver . In Europe this was the wedding ring used from the 12th to 18th century. This is entirely hand made with obvious tool marks and the style of clasped hands as seen during this time. These are very collectable and difficult to find any that were not sold. I am adding some pictures of fede rings from the 12th to 15th century to show the progression as techniques advanced.
This was sourced from an estate auction and is a K1/2and could be resized with care but is not advised as so rare and old. The ring is 5.34mm wide and the band tapers to 2.07 mm. The ring is safe to wear with care but please ensure you understand that this ring which is now 300 years old is very antique and rare.
