In the 1980s Smith & Wesson and its licensee Taylor Cutlery made 1000 of these to celebrate the Texas Rangers 180th Anniversary - the oldest state law enforcement agency in the US. Taylor Cutlery approached Captain Kirby Denton of the Texas Rangers to design this Bowie with its 8 inch, satin finished clip point blade made by Stewart A Taylor & Sons in SEKI Japan. Serial numbered up to 1000 the Texas Rangers 180th Anniversary insignia is embossed on the blade in gold. The traditional ‘coffin’ handle is said to be mesquite. The knife was originally sold with a sheath (as this one was) or in a display case. I bought this from a retired NZ policemen who told me it came from the Dallas Texas police department as part of a gift swap. Pick-up available from Auckland central.
