Description

5 Medal Group to 73623 David Douglas. 1939/45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, 1939/45 War Medal and NZ War Service Medal. All hand engraved as seen from time to time. David served in the Pacific with the 2nd N.Z. Divisional Engineers and the 35th (Mixed) Battalion, 2nd N.Z.E.F. from March 1942 until July 1944. - Fiji, New Caledonia and Green Island. He was posted to the Middle East Sector in May 1945 returning to New Zealand in December 1945. David was from Mount Roskill in Auckland.

Together with a 1939/45 Star engraved to his brother, 63933 Robert Drybourg Douglas 21st Infantry Battalion, 2nd N.Z.E.F.

Killed in Action 16th July 1943.

Robert Douglas, from Mount Roskill, was killed in the Western Desert (in the First Battle of Ruweisat Ridge during the Battle for El Alemein) with 21 Battalion on 16th July 1942. This was the battle where Captain Charles Upham was captured and won his second Victoria Cross.

Robert is buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. Grave Reference - XXX. E. 8.
