MAORI WAR MEDAL & BALTIC MEDAL - John Blake - 1846-47 HMS Calliope - (provenance ex Glendinings 1961) RARE.

Unique NZ Medal and Baltic Medal pair (NZ Medal dated 1846-47). NZ medal correctly impressed to Captain of Fore-top John Blake, along with Baltic un-named as issued. The Baltic medal was sent to HMS Majestic where Blake had served as Bosun's Mate and Chief Bosun's Mate from 1/2/1855 until 15/5/1857. This rank is a Chief Petty Officer. 62 NZ medals issued to HMS Calliope (38 known and of these 5 are in museums. Calliope served at Ruapekapeka 1845-46, Wellington 1846 and Wanganui 1847, with landing parties at all actions.
