Description
English, made in mid-late 1700s, then shortened to 9” from a 12” barrel. You can see this barrel is shortened, as the bore isn’t quite centred… I’ll put it next to one made (with 9” barrel) in early 1800s, and you can see the difference. I like these older ones. More history with barrels that go into the 1700s. Action is strong and works well. Light Dragoon, so it’s about .65 cal, and smooth bore. Not very accurate. These were used in battles like Waterloo. FYI. Some guns that were broken in battles, were repaired, (as a sailor’s job), from barrels of parts en route to NZ and Australia, and these rough, mismatched guns, were swapped for goods as ‘Trade Guns’. Horn tipped ramrod, has had the worm broken off. These worms were handy for getting out an unfired ball. Condition is reasonable for age, as you can see. A few faults, like that tiny bit of brown fill in front of the lock, which I only noticed now. This is a recent import from UK, and I haven’t cleaned it well, so You can choose what style you want. This barrel is cleaned of both Brown or Blue, and is in the “white”, (or bare metal) like they prefer in UK. Price is reasonable too, and I won’t buy more. Not worth it. But happy to buy for you on Commission, if you want something else (like perhaps, a 12” Long Sea Service). Nice deep proofs at top of barrel. This is a sign of Authenticity. Watch out for guns with shallow ‘proofs’, and no rust around the pins… they’re modern Repro ones. Has a few old regiment and rack stamps. Shipped for $60 fee, or, better still, come and collect and see the other 62 muzzle-loaders I’ve just bought in…. And … buy some more ! Cheers Lex Severinsen, CHB. Other listings… Save Me, Blunderbuss, Colt Revolver, percussion, sword.
