Description

A very rare German U-Boat scuttle timer clock. This item (comes on a brass stand) is fully functioning and keeps perfect time (for a countdown clock). The movement is made by Systeme ZBinden, with a 12009 movement (or serial number). On the inside of the removable outer cover is engraved the numbers "282" - I am not sure if this timer was in use during the war and assigned to U-Boat 282, or that this number means something else.

I have spent a lot of time trying to find another one of these in order to gauge value, only ever having found one other online. The one I found was beaten up, but sold in Germany years ago for 550 Euros (link address below).

I have put a starting price on this item, but with no additional reserve.

Thank you for checking out this listing - I hope someone will be intrigued by it!

  • Hey mate what dimensions is this please toppom2 (1175) • 12:48 pm, Wed, 15 Oct Hi, The outer diameter is = 118 mm. The depth (excl. winding gear/spindle) = 90 mm. That includes the timing mechanism and the lower encased ignition switch gear (all part of the same housing). The width of the outer black time interval marker strip = 12 mm. The unobstructed glass view port has a diameter of: 76 mm (+-). The weight = 960 grams. I hope that helps. walter52 (106) • Wednesday, 15 October 2025
  • 350 buy now?? toppom2 (1175) • 4:11 pm, Wed, 15 Oct Hi, Thank you, but it owes me a little bit more than that. I would rather see if a auction would commence before accepting the start price right off the bat. It is still a good offer, if others fall through I may reconsider. Thank you so much, kind regards, Wouter walter52 (106) • Wednesday, 15 October 2025
  • I had a question regarding Afterpay the other day. Just confirming (to that person), that this added as a option now. Seller comment Wednesday, 15 October 2025
  • Hi. Where did you source it from if I can please ask. robs (1014) • 6:27 pm, Thu, 16 Oct Funny story actually, in that I discovered it with a label on the package, identified as an astronomical clock (it's not that! :) ). It was part of a box full of vintage alarm clocks that I bought from a collector in New Zealand. That's all I know sorry. I have had it for one and a half years more or less, just tucked away. walter52 (106) • Thursday, 16 October 2025
