FROM THE WATCHMAKER AND JEWELLERS ESTATE MUSEUM I WILL BE LISTING MORE OF THEIR MUSEUM ITEMS DURING WHICH WILL INCLUDE ANTIQUE CARVED PIECES AS WELL AS THE VICTORIAN CARVED KAURI AMBER/GUM Museum cabinet No. 308 A very rare signed carved bone miniature book with beautiful detail by Jikan Ganbun inset with jade Circa Edo period 1850's or Meiji era Circa 1860's, he was a 19th-century Japanese artist and craftsman known for his intricate miniature creations, particularly his depictions of insects, books, mushrooms and small creatures on netsuke (toggles) and other art pieces. He was a very skilled bone and wood carver, renowned for his lifelike miniatures which he often inlaid with jade and other gems often into carved bone items. the estate notes date it to the Edo era Circa 1850 or Meiji era Circa 1860's, its height measures just 3/4 inch ( 18mm ) and is 1/2 inch ( 14mm ) wide and 3/8ths inch ( 10mm ) in overall thickness, it has wonderful carved bronzed stained pages and is set with a cabochon jade on the front and another jade on the spine of the book and his signature is etched and blackened on the back. With it is a lovely carved bone box to display it that has bronze or brass fittings and decoration. Very rare to find a piece like this for sale and a special item for collectors of miniature carved pieces from the Edo--Meiji Period. The estate notes list this as bought in the late 1950's from a private collector and likely dates from the Edo era Circa 1850 or the Meiji Period Circa 1860 .
