These are all special pieces of Kauri amber from the estate museum and would be perfect as a gift for someone interested in our Kauri industry, they also have the lovely smell of the Kauri forest and could also be ideal as a rare item for collectors of Kauri amber/gum. Included with each piece is the moving written verse from the museum collection. This is a very unique one of the Kauri amber/gum Victorian miniature books that was cut and hand polished by a Dalmation Kauri gum digger named Pavletich in the 1870's to early 1900's and was bought at an Auckland auction in the 1950's for the estate Museums miniature Kauri amber/gum items. This is a really interesting item from the Estate Museums Cabinet display No. 400 and is another of the family estates finest rare examples of a unique Victorian swamp Kauri amber/gum cut and hand polished miniature book c.1870 with " KAURI " on the front and with gilded pages and NZ on the back and the date 1870 on the spine 1.1/4 inch x 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch thick overall it is a piece of ancient swamp Kauri wood with some Kauri amber/gum 600--800 year old within with wood in it making this book look as if it has the old marbled binding front and back. Lovely for collectors of rare items of swamp Kauri amber/gum this piece has unique swamp Kauri wood with some area's of Kauri amber/gum within it and probably between 800 to 1,000 year old. Our Kauri amber from the Victorian and Edwardian era was often made into interesting carved ornaments, art work and jewellery items.
