Ancient Egyptian Faience Amulet of Taweret – Late Period, c. 664–332 BCE
A turquoise faience amulet depicting Taweret, the hippopotamus-headed goddess of fertility, childbirth, and protection. She is shown in the classic stance, standing on an integral base, with prominent belly and stylised limbs. A suspension loop is set above the head for wear or attachment.
Material: Glazed faience Date: Late Period, c. 664–332 BCE Dimensions: 2.5 cm high x 1 cm wide Condition: Good for age; surface wear and minor glaze loss. An old, unobtrusive repair at the waist. Suspension loop intact.

Notes: Taweret was a protective household deity in ancient Egypt, invoked to guard women and children, especially during pregnancy and childbirth. Amulets of this type were worn in life and placed in burials to confer protective power in the afterlife. The turquoise-blue faience was symbolically associated with regeneration and vitality.
