FROM THEIR RARE VICTORIAN MINIATURES CABINET No. 523 AND IS ONE OF THE ESTATE LITTLE MUSEUMS STUNNING BEAUTIFUL CARVED VERY HARD (AT LEAST 800 YEARS OLD ) AND PURE KAURI AMBER / GUM MINIATURE HEART SHAPED PIECES AND ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT PIECES FROM THE ESTATE COLLECTION OF OUR KAURI TREE KAURI AMBER/GUM OF NEW ZEALANDS HISTORIC PREHISTORIC PAST AND IS ALMOST 1.3/4 INCH IN LENGTH X 1 INCH WIDE AND OVERALL THICKNESS JUST OVER 3/4 INCH .
A lovely antique sculptured miniature from Museum cabinet No. 523 which is a late Victorian c1890 Kauri amber/gum piece shaped as a stunning heart shape with clear orange/red colours and also dark red /yellow swirls within and has silver ring fittings at the top so it could be used as a unique pendant. This piece was bought by the Grandfather at an auction of carved Kauri amber/gum in Auckland in the 1950's from a collection of pieces of a Dalmation gum digger named Pavletich in the estates notes for the estates Museum display of miniature Kauri amber/gum items and it is one of his pieces cut and polished Circa 1890 --1900. Of interest is that the first recorded use of sandpaper was in 13th-century China when crushed shells, seeds, and sand were bonded to parchment using natural gum. Glass paper was invented in London 1883 by John Oakey and Victorians used to polish things like Kauri amber. Please view pictures all questions answered for you.
