Description
Fossil Mud Lobster Thalassina anomala Pliocene Gunn Point, Northern Territory, Australia
Thalassina is a genus of lobster like animal found in mangrove swamps. It's a similar looking animal to what the Australian's call a Yabby. The sides of the carapace are preserved, which seems to be quite common for these specimens. The tail is really nicely preserved and it can be seen curling underneath the animal. The legs and claws are partially preserved. There is a lot of texture and detail preserved in this specimen - the little spikes on the claws, legs, tail sections etc are clearly visible! I don't have the ID card for this specimen, but I have included a screenshot from the catalogue.
I have been asked to part out a large fossil and mineral collection, this specimen is from that collection. Keep an eye on my listings as I'll be listing some unique specimens as I get time.
