On offer is a bulk quantity (x50) of small polished 'button' type specimens of a Devonian Goniatite from Morocco (830g). These are found in outcrops of very hard limestone in the Atlas Mountains area. Rough lumps are excavated and then roughly cut into discs. One side is left unpolished whilst the other is polished into a shallow dome to reveal the whorls of the fossilised Goniatite.

Goniatites are the pre-curser to the Ammonites, that were abundant in the Jurassic. These early cephalopods had a much simplified 'suture' pattern made up of smooth arcs...
