Description
On offer is a pair of fossil shark teeth from Morocco. These come from large phosphate rich deposits in the basin area to the NW of the Atlas Mountains. The Squalicorax is found in the deeper deposits of Cretaceous age (approx 70 MYO); whilst the Otodus is found in the upper layers of Eocene age (approx 54 MYO)...
Otodus was a form of Mackerel shark; a group that included the giant Great white shark Megalodon. The Squalicorax or Crow Shark was a coastal predator/scavenger. As these marine deposits are now in central Morocco this indicates that this area was once submerged by a larger ocean. As Africa moved north this ocean became closed off (about 6million years ago) to form the Mediterranean Sea...
This pair come in small square plastic box approx 3cm x 3cm. Each tooth has a separate information label...
