The Story:

I saw him five days before, he was high up near the top of a valley. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw him, he must have caught my wind and was passing quickly from some native into a large patch of manuka. He had loads of hinds - he was "The King of the Valley" for sure! I managed to snap a couple of pictures as I had my phone camera in hand. I looked at these pictures with my eyes bulging - he had more than 20 points. I hadn't seen one this big before. Long story short, I returned and hunted days without been able find him. On the day of my last chance as the light was beginning to dwindle, I saw a huge 14 pointer and he come into a shootable position. I thought to myself last chance... Come on big boy, otherwise I am not going without these 14 points. I lined up on him, darkness closing in fast. I thought I can't wait any longer I must take the shot, it's now or never, but right at that moment, some movement caught the corner of my eye, high up on the ridge were some hinds and they were heading down towards me. And like the fall of many a noble and great, there were females involved, let's call them Delilah the doe and Bathsheba the Bambi. What could have been more dangerous? He was hot on their tail, that cunning old boy waited until just before dark - no wonder he had got so big.
