This mere is carved from beautiful West Coast Tangiwai Pounamu, with gorgeous dark colouring. Supported by some veins NOT fractures :). A stunning piece for your collection. Fitted with a four plait.
Mere were originally a weapon used by warriors in hand-to-hand combat. Often passed down through generations, they were thought to embody the spirits of previous owners and seen as the ultimate symbol of strength, mana (authority), and status.
Carved by Brittany Lissington (nee Surgenor) in Hokitika.
