Description
Slice of NZ history. Print of an 1848 NZ Company poster.
This poster is of particular interest as the NZ Company was in a bit of a crisis and, while still advertising for emigrants, it was offering assisted passage rather than free passage. It had also widened the net to include "domestic servants".
The Ajax evidently didn't quite leave on time - it eventually sailed on 8 September 1848 arriving in Port Chalmers on Jan 8 1849, Wellington a month later and Nelson a month after that. You can find actual passenger lists on the Internet ... Was one of your forebears aboard?
It is on 2mm fibre board backing. Unearthed behind a family photo from 1973 that we recently reframed so the print & backing are at least 50 years old!
Approximately 34 x 50cm. Great condition as it has been preserved under a photo and covered all this time.
Please note, PING only, shipping costs (at auction winner's expense and risk) will be worked out directly with auction winner. Pick up available in Ngaruawahia.
