Seller added 1 photo Seller comment Wednesday, 13 August 2025 i need to ask what sort of professional carver would choose to use MDF ? the only thing easier to carve would be balsa wood or butter brad752 (300 • 5:31 pm, Wed, 13 Aug )Looks professional to me and ive sold for 130 artists over the years as am art dealer. One maori carver I sold for used river stones and driftwood instead of pounamu and native wood. My only guess is that it was a gift or affordable sale. Hope that helps. fiordlandart (1070 • Wednesday, 13 August 2025 )It's well done regardless, but no a master carver wouldn't make his mark on MDF so likely some 1 who has a good eye for detail and it shows jahlove62 (447 • 6:51 pm, Wed, 13 Aug )Cliff Whiting carved on particle board. I know master carvers using acrylic and steel. Rangi Kipa used Corian made by Dupont. fiordlandart (1070 • Wednesday, 13 August 2025 )Just to be clear, I do not know who carved this piece or the carver’s level of experience. I’m not seeking random opinions—only genuine bidders please. In person, it’s an outstanding work that appears to be the creation of a gifted, talented hand. It looks like a professional-quality piece, possibly a gift or a practice work. I’d love to keep it, but I need to raise funds for my studio. The photos don’t do justice to how good it really is. $1 reserve so anyone can have a chance at owning it. Seller comment Wednesday, 13 August 2025 Probably made on a CNC router john3647 (42 • 8:17 pm, Wed, 13 Aug )I wouldn't know, it's extremely accurate. Hard to imagine the entire job done on one though. Have you seen one before? Looks more like a hand carve to me but I'm not an expert on the subject at all. fiordlandart (1070 • Wednesday, 13 August 2025 )I am trained in Whakairo. MDF carving is common in this day and age for various reasons. Good native timber suitible for carving can be tricky to get hold of. MDF is cheap and readily avaliable. Excellent for practicing design although it doesn't offer the challenge of the grain of the wood. Whoever carved this piece is an exceptional carver who has been properly trained. It is not Done on a cnc machine. I can't believe the negativity of people. franco8 (342 • 9:19 pm, Thu, 14 Aug )Wow thanks, I appreciate your comment. I knew it was a fantastic piece and wasn't going to back down. I'm going to upload more pics in better lighting, I can see the carve marks here. It really is outstanding. fiordlandart (1070 • Thursday, 14 August 2025 )I know a full who was in prison who did something like this, fine work indeed. sbaker29 (26 • 6:19 pm, Fri, 15 Aug )Thanks for comment, appreciate it. It's a stunning piece. fiordlandart (1070 • Friday, 15 August 2025 )Sorry that was fella not full! sbaker29 (26 • 6:22 pm, Fri, 15 Aug )all good it read that way, I was thinking fella. fiordlandart (1070 • Friday, 15 August 2025 )
