Salt Glazed House Piles from Carder Bros & Co - very rare and collectable. Carder Bros & Co have a display at MOTAT and other museums. This set has been rescued from demolition and is available for sale. Three similar piles sold at the Cordys Auction house for $320.00 and a single gully trap went for $150.00 Sizes 1; 35cm length 19cm width 2: 34cm length 18cm width 3: 35cm length 19cm width 4: 34.5cm length 20cm width 5: 68.5cm length 19cm width 6: 70cm length is 19cm width
In 1863 Joshua Carder set up the first commercial works, Waipareira Pottery, using a throwing wheel, and made a variety of products including sewer pipes, crockery insulators, and a variety of ornamental items; and was the original promoter of the pottery industry in Hobsonville; responsible for the earliest fired clay production at Limeburners Bay.
