Description
These machines are one of the most collected sewing machines. Willcox and Gibbs became famous for their innovative chain sitting machined which used a single thread and no bobbins. They are known for their precision engineering and quiet operation. Some say the machine represents the finest piece of 19th century precision engineering in the world! The company was first founded in 1857 and this machine has the number A336308 which probably puts it in the 1880's circa. This machine is in good condition for its age but has no gold decorative work, box of extras or manual. It does have a wooden case that has seen better days. It hasn't' been used for 50 years so would need service if going to use it. It measures 33cm X 21cm X 28cm. Despite being small it is quite heavy as it is made of cast iron. Prefer pick up. A book has been written about the Willcox and Gibb machines.
